Why this site exists
Most planting advice online is written for the whole country at once, or for one blogger's backyard. Neither tells you much about your own zone or your own last frost date. Plant by Date starts from the two things that actually decide your planting window — your frost date and the crop — and does the arithmetic from there, sourced to a named extension service each time.
Funding
Display advertising pays for the site, clearly labelled as advertising and kept out of the calculator and its results. No seed company, nursery or garden retailer pays us to change a word.
Who runs it
Yehor Panfilov publishes Plant by Date independently from Ukraine. Drafts are written with AI assistance, then checked line by line against the sources a guide cites before anything goes live. Nothing on the site is presented as the publisher's own gardening experience, and no expertise is claimed that the publisher does not have.
What we hold every page to
- A planting-window figure has to come from a named university extension service, USDA or NOAA source — never a blog, never a guess.
- Every page carries the date it was last checked against those sources, not just the date it was written.
- A frost date is a long-run average. We say so, because your yard and this year are not guaranteed to match it.
- A reported error gets checked against the source it points to, then fixed, then the page's checked date moves.
